The Breast Cancer Flower Ceremony has become a cherished tradition at dragon boat festivals worldwide, symbolizing hope, remembrance, and resilience.

This heartfelt tradition began in 1997 when a breast cancer survivor team in Vancouver carried pink carnations during their race to honor a teammate facing a recurrence of the disease. After their final race, the team spontaneously tossed their carnations into the water, and from this touching moment, the Flower Ceremony was born.

Today, the Breast Cancer Flower Ceremony is a highlight of every dragon boat festival. While the type and color of the flowers may differ, the purpose remains the same: to honor those who have lost their battle, inspire hope in those still fighting, and celebrate the strength of survivors.

For those wishing to pay tribute to a loved one affected by cancer, carnations will be available for a donation through the Breast Buddies. Your contribution not only honors their journey but also supports a meaningful cause.
